Modernism Week

The 23rd annual Palm Springs Modernism Show will once again be a featured event during Modernism Week in February. The show, which will feature 120 dealers presenting the best of vintage 20th century and compelling 21st century designs, returns all under one roof during Modernism Week. The show will take place at the Palm Springs Convention Center February 17-20, 2023. Weekend admission is $30 online or at the door. Admission includes return entry all weekend and a show catalog. Show hours are Saturday 10 am–6 pm, Sunday 10 am–5 pm, and Monday 10 am–4 pm. The Palm Springs Convention Center is located at 277 North Avenida Caballeros in Palm Springs. Valet parking will be offered at the front of the Convention Center on Saturday and Sunday for $15. There is no valet parking on Monday due to the Classic Car Show, another featured event during Modernism Week which will take place form 12 pm – 3 pm in front of the Palm Springs Convention Center. The Palm Springs Modernism Show features 120 premier national and international exhibitors featuring vintage furniture and decorative and fine arts reflecting all design movements of the 20th century with a heavy emphasis on mid-century modern. The Modernism Show also includes compelling 21st century original designs for modern living including cutting-edge home appliances, hand-crafted furniture and accessories, contemporary art and photography, and much more.

An exciting early buying preview benefiting Modernism Week will take place on Friday evening, February 17 from 6 –9 pm. At the biggest party during Modernism Week, attendees will enjoy a full open bar, complimentary valet parking, hors d’oeuvres, live music and the “exclusive opportunity” to be among the first to see and shop the world-class collections before the show opens to the general public. Preview party tickets are $110 in advance and $125 at the door and include return entry to the show all weekend. Proceeds from ticket sales benefit Modernism Week, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization.

The International Museum of Dinnerware Design, Ann Arbor Michigan will feature an exhibition and lecture during the show. The International Museum of Dinnerware Design collects, preserves and celebrates masterpieces of the tabletop genre created by leading artists and designers worldwide. Through its collections, exhibitions, and educational programming, it provides a window on the varied cultural and societal attitudes toward food and dining and commemorates the objects that exalt and venerate the dining experience. display of vintage and modern dinnerware at their booth, located in the show lobby. All objects that will be shown are from the museum’s vast permanent collection. The exhibition will be up all weekend and set up in the show lobby adjacent to the entrance to the show.

Museum Director Dr. Margaret Carney will present the lecture “Dining on Modernism” on Saturday, February 18 at 12 pm. Dr. Carney will define the parameters of Modernism (in terms of dining), and will satiate the audience’s appetite for dinnerware spanning five decades, including Art Deco, Mid-Century Modern, and Pop Art. The lecture will be in the show lobby as well and is included with admission to the show.

Charlies Hollis Jones will offer signed copied of the following books all weekend in his booth at the Modernism Show.

Master of the Mid-Century: The Architecture of William F. Cody, by Catherine Cody, Don Choi, and Jo Lauria, will be signed by Catherine Cody on Friday 2/17 from 6 – 8 pm, on Saturday 2/18 from 12 – 4 pm, and on Monday 2/20 from 12 – 4 pm. Co-author Jo Lauria will also sign the book on Monday 2/20 from 12 – 4 pm.

Arthur Elrod: Desert Modern Design by Adèle Cygelman will be signed by Ms. Cygelman on Friday 2/17 from 6 – 8 pm, on Saturday 2/18 from 10 am – 12 pm, and on Monday 2/20 from 10 – 11 am.

Charles Hollis Jones: Mr. Lucite will be signed Charles Hollis Jones on Friday 2/17 from 6 –9 pm, on Saturday 2/18 from 10 am – 6 pm, on Sunday 2/19 from 10 am – 5 pm, and on Monday 2/20 from 10 am –4 pm.
